The Thamud accused the messengers of lies. 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
