۞ When the son of Mary was mentioned as an example, you people cried out in protest, saying, 57 saying, "Are our gods better or him?" -- they cite him only to challenge you: they are a contentious people -- 58 He ['Iesa (Jesus)] was not more than a slave. We granted Our Favour to him, and We made him an example to the Children of Israel (i.e. his creation without a father). 59 if We had so wished, We could have appointed angels in exchange for you to succeed you on the earth. 60 It is knowledge of the Hour; doubt not concerning it, and follow me. This is a straight path. 61 Let not Satan hinder you (from believing in the Hour), for surely he is your open enemy. 62 When Jesus came with clear signs, he said, "Now I have come to you with wisdom, in order to make clear to you some of the things about which you dispute: therefore fear God and obey me. 63 Verily Allah! He is my lord and your Lord, so worship Him: this is the straight path. 64 Then the factions fell apart among themselves. So woe to the wrong-doers from the chastisement of a grievous Day. 65 Are they looking for aught but the Hour, that it shall come upon them suddenly, when they are not aware? 66 The friends shall on that day be enemies one to another, except those who guard (against evil). 67
