The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 abasing, exalting, 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water poured out 31 and abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And made them virginal, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
