The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 stay away from sins 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he thought; 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
