The assembly of Pharaoh's nation said: 'This man is a wellversed sorcerer 109 "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?" 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 to bring together at the Pharaohs court all the skillful magicians. 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said, "We must have our reward if we are to gain a victory over him (Moses)". 113 The Pharaoh replied, "In addition to your rewards, you will become my close friends thereafter." 114 They said: O Musa! will you cast, or shall we be the first to cast? 115 He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired Moses (saying): Throw thy staff! And lo! it swallowed up their lying show. 117 ۞ Thus was the truth established, and their doings proved in vain. 118 they were defeated and turned belittled, 119 And the wizards fell down prostrate, 120 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 “I swear I will cut off your hands and your feet from alternate sides and then crucify you all.” 124 They said, “We shall return to our Lord.” 125 “And what did you dislike in us, except that we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Pour (bestow abundantly) patience on us, and bestow us death as Muslims.” 126
