The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 Purify your inner self, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and children living in his presence, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
