The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 And the moon when it follows the sun, 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 Thamud (people) denied (their Prophet) through their transgression (by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism, and by following polytheism, and by committing every kind of sin). 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
