The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 But save him who fears 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
