The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Romans have been conquered 2 In the neighbouring land. But having been conquered they will conquer 3 Within ten years - Allah's is the command in the former case and in the latter - and in that day believers will rejoice 4 With the help of Allah. He helps whom He will, and He is exalted in might, most merciful. 5 (This is) Allah's promise! Allah will not fail His promise, but most people do not know. 6 they only know the outward appearance of the life of this world, and they are neglectful of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not think deeply (in their ownselves) about themselves (how Allah created them from nothing, and similarly He will resurrect them)? Allah has created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, except with truth and for an appointed term. And indeed many of mankind deny the Meeting with their Lord. [See Tafsir At-Tabari, Part 21, Page 24]. 8 And did they not travel in the land to see what sort of fate befell those before them? They were stronger than them, and they cultivated the land and inhabited it more than them, and their Noble Messengers came to them with clear proofs; so it did not befit Allah’s Majesty to oppress them, but it was they who used to wrong themselves. 9 Therefore evil was the end of those who did evil, for they denied the signs of God and made fun of them. 10
