The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and a few from later times. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 The Companions of the Right 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and shade extended, 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
