Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 For the one among you who wishes to come forward or stay back. 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 [And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?" 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 and we did not feed the poor; 44 "And we used to talk falsehood (all that which Allah hated) with vain talkers. 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 “Till death overcame us.” 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 Then what is wrong with them (i.e. the disbelievers) that they turn away from (receiving) admonition? 49 like frightened donkeys 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 Let him who will take heed: 55 And they will not heed unless Allah willeth (it). He is the fount of fear. He is the fount of Mercy. 56
