He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and palms 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
