Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
HaMeem 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
