The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 And if they see a sign, they turn away, and say: "This is continuous magic." 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 narratives that are full of consummate wisdom. But warnings do not avail them. 5 Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair, 6 They will come out from the graves with eyes lowered, as if they were spread locusts. 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ Before them Noah's people also gave the lie (to his Message). They rejected Our servant as a liar, saying: “He is a madman”; and he was rebuffed. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 Thereupon We opened the gates of the sky for water to pour down, 11 We caused the earth to burst forth with springs so that the waters could come together for a predestined purpose. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 How terrible was My torment and the result of (their disregard) of My warning. 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 Ad cried lies. How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 which hurled people around like uprooted trunks of palm-trees. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 We have made the Qur'an easy to derive lessons from. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 22
