In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 If you persist in denying the truth how will you escape the Day that will turn the children's hair grey. 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
