The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
