Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I swear by the daybreak, 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter among My servants 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
