The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
