The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 A servant when he prays? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
