The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 and taught to him 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
