The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 A dwelling place for the Taghun (those who transgress the boundry limits set by Allah like polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, hyprocrites, sinners, criminals, etc.), 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
