The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits abounding 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
