The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know! 3 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No community precedeth the term thereof nor doth it fall behind. 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 Why do you not bring down the angels, if what you say is true' 7 We send not down the angels save with the Fact, and in that case (the disbelievers) would not be tolerated. 8 Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad SAW) amongst the sects (communities) of old. 10 No Messenger went to them whom they did not mock. 11 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty: 12 They do not believe in it even though the practice of the ancients has already gone. 13 Though We opened to them a gate in heaven, and still they mounted through it, 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15
