The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from the latter. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
