The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ THE MOST GRACIOUS 1 Taught the Qur'an, 2 He has created man: 3 and taught him its pronunciation. 4 The sun and the moon follow a reckoning, 5 And the herbs and the trees do obeisance. 6 He raised the sky and set the Balance 7 so that you [too, O men,] might never transgress the measure [of what is right]: 8 And observe correct measure, weigh with justice, and not cheat the balance. 9 He has laid out the earth for His creatures. 10 with fruit thereon, and palm trees with sheathed clusters [of dates,] 11 and grain growing tall on its stalks, and sweet-smelling plants. 12 Which of the bounties of your Lord will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny? 13 He created the human from clay, like earthenware 14 And the jinn did He create of smokeless fire. 15 Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? 16 Lord of the two Easts, Lord of the two Wests. 17 So O men and jinns! Which favour of your Lord will you deny? 18 He has set the two oceans in motion, converging together. 19 Between them is a barrier which they cannot pass. 20 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 21 From both of them emerge pearl and coral. 22 O which of your Lord's bounties will you and you deny? 23 His are the ships displayed upon the sea, like banners. 24 Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? 25
