The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
