He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 May man be slain how ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits and pastures 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
