(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 “Fear Him Who has aided you with the things you know.” 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
