And when Abraham said unto his father and his folk: Lo! I am innocent of what ye worship 26 except for the One who has created me and will guide me". 27 And he made it [i.e. La ilaha ill-Allah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah Alone)] a Word lasting among his offspring (True Monotheism), that they may turn back (i.e. to repent to Allah or receive admonition). 28 In fact, We allowed them and their fathers to enjoy themselves until the truth and a strong Messenger came to them. 29 Yet when the truth had come to them, they said: "This is sorcery. We shall never believe in it." 30 And they said, "Why was this Qur'an not sent down upon a great man from [one of] the two cities?" 31 Shall they apportion their Lord's mercy? It is We Who have apportioned among them their livelihood in the life of the world, and raised some of them over others in degrees, so that one of them may take another as a serf; and the mercy of thy Lord is better than that which they amass. 32 And were it not that mankind would be one nation, We would have appointed for those who disbelieve in the All-merciful roofs of silver to their houses, and stairs whereon to mount, 33 And silver doors for their houses, and silver couches whereon they recline, 34 And (other) embellishments of gold; and all this is naught but provision of this world's life, and the hereafter is with your Lord only for those who guard (against evil). 35
