The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude of those of old 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and spreading shade 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
