The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
