The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
