۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 other than Allah, and guide them to the Path of Hell! 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 What is the matter with you that you do not help each other? 25 Nay, but on that Day they would willingly surrender [to God]; 26 And some of them will confront the others, 27 They will say, "You used to come at us from the right." 28 They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe. 29 "And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people (disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers). 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators." 32 On that Day, they will all share the chastisement. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Verily when it was said unto them: there is no god but Allah, they ever grew stiff-necked. 35 and replied, "Shall we then give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. 39 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 40 For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise). 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Bliss 43 seated on couches, facing one another. 44 a cup filled with wine from its springs, will be passed around to them; 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 who are as chaste as sheltered eggs. 49 Then they will turn to one another, mutually questioning. 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'" 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 Then he looks, and sees him in the midst of Hell. 55 And he will say: by Allah, thou hadst wellnigh causedest me to perish. 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 What then, shall we not die 58 "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" 59 Lo! this is the supreme triumph. 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 which We have made as a test for the wrongdoers. 63 Surely it is a tree that-grows in the bottom of the hell; 64 Its fruit like the heads of demons. 65 Then most surely they shall eat of it and fill (their) bellies with it. 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell. 68 They indeed found their fathers astray, 69 so they are rushing to follow in their footsteps. 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 And We had sent admonishers to them. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- 73 except the sincere worshipers of Allah. 74
