Thamud denied the warning 23 So they said: What! a single mortal from among us! Shall we follow him? Most surely we shall in that case be in sure error and distress: 24 Was he the one of all of us to have been given the exposition? He is surely an impudent liar." 25 (We told Salih), "Tomorrow they will know who is the most arrogant liar. 26 For We will send the she-camel by way of trial for them. So watch them, (O Salih), and possess thyself in patience! 27 And inform them that the water is to be shared between (her and) them. Each one's right to drink being established (by turns). 28 But they called their companion, and he dared and hamstrung [her]. 29 How [terrible] were My punishment and My warnings! 30 Lo! We sent upon them one Shout, and they became as the dry twigs (rejected by) the builder of a cattle-fold. 31 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 32 The people of Lot denied the warning. 33 Indeed, We sent upon them a storm of stones, except the family of Lot - We saved them before dawn 34 As a reward from Us; this is how We reward one who gives thanks. 35 Lot warned them against Our torment, but they persistently disputed it. 36 Even his guests they had solicited of him; so We obliterated their eyes, saying, 'Taste now My chastisement and My warnings!' 37 and early in the morning the punishment decreed overtook them -- 38 "Taste, then, the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded!" 39 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 40

(1) وقف لازم، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي نقطة وقف. (2) وقف جائز مع الوقف أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلثين. When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
