The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 For this I demand no recompense from you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 But they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets. 157 So the retribution came on them. قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
