And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers. 139 When he left towards the laden ship. 140 And then they cast lots, and he was the one who lost; 141 Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame. 142 Had he not been of them who glorify Allah, 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick; 145 And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine. 146 And We sent him (on a mission) to a hundred thousand (men) or more. 147 and they believed. So We let them enjoy life for a while. 148 Then ask them whether your Lord has daughters and they have sons. 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Now surely it is of their own lie that they say: 151 "God has begotten children." They are truly liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you judge? 154 Will ye not then be admonished? 155 Or have you received some clear authority? 156 Then produce your scriptures, if you are telling the truth. 157 They assert kinship between Him and the angels. But the angels know that they (the liars) will be arraigned (in Hell). 158 Glory to Allah! (He is free) from the things they ascribe (to Him)! 159 except for God's sincere servants. 160 So, verily you (pagans) and those whom you worship (idols). 161 can lure away from God any 162 except him who shall roast in the Blazing Fire. 163 [All forces of nature praise God and say:] "Among us, too, there is none but has a place assigned to it [by Him]; 164 And most surely we are they who draw themselves out in ranks, 165 “And indeed we are those who say His purity.” 166 What, would they then say: 167 “If only we had the Reminder which had been granted to the people of yore 168 We would have been the chosen creatures of God." 169 They have rejected the Quran. They will soon know the consequences (of their disbelief). 170 Our word had already been given before to Our votaries, the apostles, -- 171 That they verily would be made triumphant. 172 and Our host -- they are the victors. 173 So, (O Prophet), leave them alone for a while, 174 And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see. 175 Then for Our punishment are they impatient? 176 When it comes down on their plains, it will be an evil dawn for those who had been warned. 177 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 178 and see, soon they shall see! 179 Exaltations be to your Lord, the Lord of Might, above that they describe! 180 And peace be unto those sent (to warn). 181 and all praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe. 182
