But as for anyone who chooses to remain blind to the remembrance of the Most Gracious, to him We assign an [enduring] evil impulse, to become his other self: 36 Such (evil ones) really hinder them from the Path, but they think that they are being guided aright! 37 Till, when he cometh unto Us, he saith (unto his comrade): Ah, would that between me and thee there were the distance of the two horizons - an evil comrade! 38 And it will profit you not today, because ye have done wrong, that ye are in the torment sharers. 39 Then will you make the deaf hear, [O Muhammad], or guide the blind or he who is in clear error? 40 Even if We take you away from the world, We shall surely take vengeance on them 41 Or We shall show thee that (accomplished) which We have promised them: for verily We shall prevail over them. 42 Follow devotedly that which is revealed to you. You are certainly on the right path. 43 Verily it is a great source of eminence for you and your people, and soon you will be called to account concerning that. 44 Yet [above all else,] ask any of Our apostles whom We sent forth before thy time whether We have ever allowed that deities other than the Most Gracious be worshipped! 45
