The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When heaven is rent asunder 1 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 And throws out whatever it contains and is empty, 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And will return to his people full of joy. 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 Soon will he cry for perdition, 11 and will enter the Blazing Fire. 12 Indeed he used to rejoice in his home. 13 Truly, did he think that he would not have to return (to Us)! 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 So I swear by the twilight glow 16 And by oath of the night and all that gathers in it. 17 And by the moon when it is at the full, 18 You shall certainly travel from stage to stage (in this life and in the Hereafter). 19 What is wrong with them that they do not believe? 20 and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Nay! those who disbelieve give the lie to the truth. 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 But for those who believe and do good works; for them there shall be a never-ending reward. 25
