The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
