The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the heavens and the night Star -- 1 And what will explain to thee what the Night-Visitant is?- 2 (It is) the star of piercing brightness; 3 There is no soul but that it has over it a protector. 4 LET MAN, then, observe out of what he has been created: 5 Created from a gushing fluid. 6 Proceeding from between the back-bone and the ribs, 7 Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)! 8 On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out. 9 Then he shall have no power nor any helper. 10 By the sky (having rain clouds) which gives rain, again and again. 11 And the earth which opens up (with verdure), 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 And is not a matter of amusement. 14 They are cunningly devising, 15 And I am plotting a plot. 16 So grant the unbelievers a respite: let them alone for a while. 17
