The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. 15
