He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
