The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 shun uncleanness; 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then looked he, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have not appointed any one but angels as keepers of Hell, and their number that We have fixed is to make it a means of contention for disbelievers, so that those who were given the Book may be certain, and the faith of the believers may have greater increase, and the people of the Book and believers may not be deceived, and the sceptics and infidels may say: "What does God mean by this parable?" That is how God leads whosoever He will astray, and guides whosoever He will. None knows the armies of your Lord save Him self. This is no more than reminder for mankind. 31
