Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
