We gave Moses the Book and appointed his brother Aaron as his counsellor: 35 We therefore said, “Go, both of you, to the people who have denied Our signs”; then ruining the people, We destroyed them completely. 36 We had drowned the people of Noah when they had accused the apostles of lies, and turned them into an example for men. We have prepared a painful punishment for the wicked. 37 (As for) 'Ad, Thamud and the people of ar-Rass, and many generations in between them, 38 To each one We set forth Parables and examples; and each one We broke to utter annihilation (for their sins). 39 And assuredly they have gone by the township whereon was rained the evil rain. Are they not wont to see it? Aye! they expect not Resurrection. 40 Whenever they see you, they mock you (saying): 'Is this whom Allah has sent as a Messenger? 41 Had we not been steadfast he would almost have led us astray from our gods." On facing torment they will soon know who had really gone astray. 42 Did you see the one who chose his own desires as his God? So will you accept the responsibility of guarding him? 43 Do you think that most of them hear or understand? They are only like the cattle; nay, even worse than the cattle. 44
