The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they differ? 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 Requital corresponding. 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
