Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
