The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 And never did We destroy a town but it had a term made known. 4 No nation can outstrip its term, nor do they put it back. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 We do not send down the angels (in frivolity); and when We do send them down, We do so with Truth; then people are granted no respite. 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 We sent Messengers to the ancient people who lived before you. 10 and not a single Messenger came to them, but they mocked at him; 11 Thus do We let it (polytheism and disbelief) enter into the hearts of the Mujrimun [criminals, polytheists, pagans, etc. (because of their mockery at the Messengers)]. 12 They will not believe in it, though they have before them the example of former peoples, 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 They would surely say: "Our eyes have been (as if) dazzled. Nay, we are a people bewitched." 15
