The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Surely there hath come upon man a space of time when he was not a thing worth mentioning. 1 Verily, it is We who have created man out of a drop of sperm intermingled, so that We might try him [in his later life]: and therefore We made him a being endowed with hearing and sight. 2 We have indeed shown him the way – whether he is grateful or ingrate. 3 Lo! We have prepared for disbelievers manacles and carcans and a raging fire. 4 Indeed the virtuous will drink from a cup, containing a mixture of Kafoor. 5 A Fountain where the Devotees of Allah do drink, making it flow in unstinted abundance. 6 They fulfill their vow and dread a Day the evil whereof shall be widespreading. 7 And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 (Saying): We feed you, for the sake of Allah only. We wish for no reward nor thanks from you; 9 Indeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful." 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadratan (a light of beauty) and joy. 11 And gave them Paradise and silk clothes, as a reward for their patience. 12 Reclining therein on raised couches, they shall find therein neither (the severe heat of) the sun nor intense cold. 13 the shading branches of trees will come down low over them, and their clusters of fruit, will hang down where they are the easiest to reach. 14 And there shall be made to go round about them vessels of silver and goblets which are of glass, 15 (Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds). 16 and they will be given a cup to drink flavoured with ginger, 17 [derived from] a source [to be found] therein, whose name is "Seek Thy Way". 18 ۞ And round about them shall go youths never altering in age; when you see them you will think them to be scattered pearls. 19 And when thou lookest them thou shalt behold delight and a dominion magnificent. 20 Upon them there will be garments of green silk, rich brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure beverage to drink. 21 Surely this is a reward for you, and your striving shall be recompensed. 22
