Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
